Changes to document L coming into force 15th June 2022

Replacement window suppliers/installers new performance requirements:

  • whole window U-values (Frame and Glass) are to be 1.4W/m2.K

or

  • WER of ‘B’ or higher.

Solution:

  • IGU to incorporate low e glass (generally soft coat such as Planitherm Total + FG)
  • Spacer bar to be warm edge – aluminium will no longer meet the requirements.
  • Argon gas filling

This is virtually the ‘standard’ unit that we make today, being almost 95% of what we manufacture. Therefore, the only change for some window suppliers will be to use warm edge spacer where they may currently use aluminium spacer.

Our aluminium spacer bar suppliers have indicated that they will phase out aluminium to prevent being left with large unsaleable stocks. We will therefore also have to phase out aluminium spacer and all spacers from June 16th will be warm edge. Shapes with curves will be made in black warm edge only.

Newbuild window suppliers/installers new performance requirements:

  • Whole window U-values of 1.2W/m2.K
    • Maximum 1.6W/m2.K if other fabric elements of the house are improved under SAP calculations.
  • This will be determined by the specifiers of new build dwellings but it is largely anticipated that 1.2W/m2.K whole window U-values will be used.

Solution:

  • IGU to incorporate a 1.0 W/m2.K glass type (such as Planitherm One T FG)
    • To achieve 1.0 W/m2.K centre pane, the cavity must be 16mm or 18mm with laminate glass.
    • 20mm cavities are 1.1W/m2.K
  • Some profile systems may still not meet the requirements when the whole building is SAP calculated and triple glazing may be required.

Please be assured that Regency Glass has the products and production skills to meet these requirements and can offer assistance with different glass combinations to help meet the building regulations.
