Moisture Control in Sealed Units
Desiccants play a vital role in the performance and longevity of insulated glass units (IGUs) that use standard spacer bar systems such as warm edge spacer bar or aluminium spacer bar. Technically known as molecular sieves, desiccants are specifically designed to adsorb moisture from within the sealed unit cavity, helping to prevent condensation and maintain clear, high-performing glazing.
At Regency Glass, we use a high-quality 3A desiccant, engineered specifically to target and adsorb water molecules only. The “3A” refers to the pore size of the material, ensuring precise moisture control without affecting other gases within the unit.
Why 3A Desiccant Matters
Not all desiccants are created equal. Lower-grade or mixed desiccants may adsorb not only moisture but also gases within the sealed unit, which can lead to pressure changes.
This can result in:
By using pure 3A desiccant, Regency Glass ensures optimal performance without compromising the integrity of the unit.
How Desiccant Works
Desiccant is housed within the spacer bar, where it begins working immediately:
This ongoing moisture control is essential for preventing internal condensation and maintaining the clarity of the glass.
Long-Term Sealed Unit Performance
Effective desiccant performance is critical to the durability of any sealed unit. At Regency Glass, we carry out daily desiccant testing to ensure it meets strict performance standards.
This quality control process helps to ensure:
