6.4mm clear and 6.4mm low e to be replaced with 6.8mm variants
Regency Glass have decided to no longer stock 6.4mm clear and low e glass types and use 6.8mm variants as standard from June 1st 2021.
This is due to both declining demand and the current global supply chain issues regarding glass and laminates in particular, at this moment in time.
High volumes of laminate glass are used in the new build housing sector, to attain the required security performance and acoustic improvements. Document Q, applicable to all new build since October 2015, states that windows shall be to PAS24 or similar, such as secure by demand – SBD. This means that many such windows need to incorporate a pane of laminated glass that meets EN 356 P1a.
6.4mm lam has no classifcation under EN356 and is simply a safety glass – it has no enhanced security performance. This is where 6.8mm lam takes over because it is the nearest thickness to 6.4mm lam but has P2a performance – it is better than P1a.
With current glass supply chain issues and limited allocation of laminate, it make sense to stock the main product by volume and discontinue 6.4mm
