Changes to document L coming into force on 15th June 2022
Replacement window suppliers/installers' new performance requirements:
- The whole window's U-values (Frame and glass) are to be 1.4W/m2.K
- WER of ‘B’ or higher.
- IGU to incorporate low e glass (generally soft coat such as Planitherm Total + FG)
- The spacer bar is to have a warm edge – aluminium will no longer meet the requirements.
- Argon gas filling
- Whole window U-values of 1.2W/m2.K
- Maximum 1.6W/m2.K if other fabric elements of the house are improved under SAP calculations.
- The specifiers of new-build dwellings will determine this, but it is largely anticipated that 1.2W/m2.K whole window U-values will be used.
- IGU to incorporate a 1.0 W/m2.K glass type (such as Planitherm One T FG)
- To achieve 1.0 W/m2.K centre pane, the cavity must be 16mm or 18mm with laminate glass.
- 20mm cavities are 1.1W/m2.K
- When the whole building is SAP calculated, some profile systems may still need to meet the requirements, and triple glazing may be required.
