Regency Glass has expanded its laminated glass offering with the introduction of 4.8mm laminated glass, providing fabricators and installers with a lightweight option for applications where safety, security and specification flexibility are key considerations.
The new 4.8mm laminated glass is now available from Regency Glass in clear, Planitherm Total+, and Planitherm One, giving customers the flexibility to select a specification suited to the wider performance requirements of their insulating glazing units.
Laminated glass is widely used across residential and commercial glazing applications where enhanced safety and security performance is required. Its construction combines panes of glass with a PVB interlayer, helping to hold glass fragments together in the event of breakage and maintain a barrier following impact.
The new 4.8mm option achieves the P2A safety and security classification, providing a tested level of impact resistance for suitable applications. It can also be incorporated into glazing specifications designed to support PAS 24 and Secured by Design requirements.
“We’re always looking at how we can broaden the solutions available to our customers and make specification as flexible as possible. The introduction of 4.8mm laminated glass gives fabricators a lighter laminated option, while retaining the safety and security performance required for a range of applications.” Said Steve Massey, Chief Sales Officer at Regency Glass.
“The reduction in weight means greater flexibility when designing insulated glass units, including the potential to accommodate larger cavity sizes and support lower U-values in specific configurations. Offering 4.8mm alongside our existing laminated glass range means customers can consider the most appropriate specification for their individual requirements, with clear, Planitherm Total+ and Planitherm One options available across both.”
A lightweight approach to laminated glazing.
One of the key benefits of 4.8mm laminated glass is its reduced weight compared with heavier laminated alternatives.
The lighter construction can make processing, handling, transportation and installation more straightforward, while also helping to reduce loads on window systems, hinges and locking mechanisms.
For fabricators and installers, this provides greater flexibility when considering the overall weight and configuration of an IGU, particularly for larger glazing applications.
The 4.8mm construction is suitable for incorporation into double-glazed units, triple-glazed units, and Regency Triple® featuring Corning® Enlighten™ Glass. In specific configurations, its reduced thickness can also enable larger IGU cavity sizes, supporting the potential to achieve lower U-values where the complete glazing specification allows.
4.8mm laminated glass can also deliver higher light transmission than thicker laminated alternatives in some configurations, providing an additional consideration when balancing safety, thermal performance and natural daylight.
Supporting modern glazing specifications
The introduction of 4.8mm laminated glass reflects Regency Glass's continued focus on expanding its product range in response to the evolving requirements of fabricators, installers and the wider glazing industry.
With a lighter construction, P2A safety and security classification, compatibility with both DGUs, TGUs, and Regency Triple®, and a choice of clear and coated variants, the new product provides another option for customers looking to balance safety, security, weight and thermal performance within their glazing specifications.
The new 4.8mm laminated glass is supplied by Saint-Gobain Glass, a trusted Regency Glass supplier, supporting the company's commitment to providing high-quality glazing solutions to the UK market.
