Document Q – building regulations

Document Q is to be implemented in new build properties. Planning permission applied for from 1/10/2015 will now include higher levels of security for doors and accessible windows – usually ground floor or accessible from ground floor extensions/garage roofs etc..  Document Q will now incorporate PAS24 and/or Secure by Design (SBD). These two standards now specify P1a as a minimum glazing requirement and this is also applied to all other installations where these standards are specified – not just new build.

In glass terms this states that the glazing should have a pane of glass with minimum security level of P1a. This translates to 6.8mm laminate being used as part of the glazing make up. Regency Glass use 6.8mm laminates that is actually P2a, a higher burglar resistant glass than P1a.
