Regency Glass will no longer stock 6.4mm clear and Low-E glass. From June 1st, 2021, 6.8mm variants will become standard.
This is due to declining demand and current global supply chain issues regarding glass and laminates in particular.
High volumes of laminate glass are used in the new-build housing sector to attain the required security performance and acoustic improvements. Document Q, applicable to all new-builds since October 2015, states that windows shall be to PAS24 or similar, such as secure by demand—SBD. This means that many such windows need to incorporate a pane of laminated glass that meets EN 356 P1a.
6.4mm lam is not classified under EN356 and is simply a safety glass—it has no enhanced security performance. This is where 6.8mm lam takes over because it is the nearest thickness to 6.4mm lam but has P2a performance—better than P1a.
With current glass supply chain issues and limited allocation of laminate, it makes sense to stock the main product by volume and discontinue 6.4mm.
