Additional 6m x 3m Glaston Toughening Plant Installed.
Regency Glass has invested in an additional high-spec toughening furnace. At 6m x 3m bed size, this will double our capacity to process toughened glass. Sitting alongside its 'twin,' this new equipment will support current IGU and single-toughened production.
One of the key drivers behind this upgrade is our proactive stance in meeting the increasing demand for toughened glass, particularly as triple-glazing volumes rise. This strategic move positions us to effectively cater to the evolving needs of the market.
The middle pane of a high-performance triple glazing unit (TGU) is recommended to be toughened to avoid cracks due to the increased and varying temperatures. The heat buildup within a TGU, made up using 2nce coatings, 2 x warm edge spacer and 2 x Argon gas- x high-performing cavities, may cause an annealed pane to become thermally unstable. This can potentially lead to breakage due to thermal heat stress. This risk and the cost of replacing these units, including the end users' disruption, is not worth compared to the low price of including a toughened middle pane.
The demand is expected to grow, initially in new-build properties, with the run-up to FSH standards in 2025, which require whole window U-values to be 0.8W/m2.K.
While there are alternative options such as Vacuum glazing or 'heat mirror' films, these 'new' ideas are not cost-effective for mainstream high volume IGU production. At Regency Glass, we remain committed to providing cost-effective solutions that meet the needs of our clients and the market.
Triple glazing is the answer for most market applications.
